General Information

The Imaging Center of the Department of Biology provides employees and students of the University of Greifswald, the University Medicine Greifswald as well as external scientific and commercially oriented institutions the possibility of using various imaging techniques in the application and service operation.

The aim of the Imaging Center is to bundle equipment and personnel with scientific and technological expertise for the benefit of all by jointly organizing all research groups of the department. It also includes the Laboratory for Electron Microscopy (LEM) as a central service facility.

The team is specialized in the fields of electron microscopy, fluorescence microscopy and X-ray tomography.

The following imaging techniques are provided by the Imaging Center:

  • scanning electron microscopy
  • transmission electron microscopy
  • epifluorescence microscopy
  • confocal laser scanning microscopy
  • digital microscopy
  • X-ray tomography

The usage of the equipment and the services of the Imaging Center is regulated in the usage guidelines (Nutzungsordnung; in German only).

Experienced staff is pleased to provide support in designing the experiments and will find with you the optimal solution for visualizing your sample within the facilities capabilities regarding available techniques and methods.
